St Clement's High School

Art Department

Our aim is to provide a supportive atmosphere, promoting and enhancing pupils' experiences and enthusiasm for the arts. Pupils should explore both imagery and media freely whilst using a variety of skills and techniques to develop independent visual ideas. We strive to give pupils the ability to reflect upon the wealth and diversity of the visual world around them and the understanding that art has no boundaries.

We introduce pupils to an array of media and techniques and develop their key creative skills along with specialist skills. They cover drawing, printmaking, colour theory, painting, photography, installation, time based media, two- dimensional, three-dimensional and the analysis of creative imagery. Once pupils have a good grounding in the key skills, they are encouraged to develop independently, experimenting with visual imagery and media developing creative expressions and journeys.

We strive to give all pupils an exciting and relevant experience both in and out of the classroom, to become confident with their skills and ideas, enabling them to take ownership of their work and progression and ultimately to fall in love with the aesthetics of the visual world.
